It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of E. A. Mathew, affectionately known as Joy, who departed from us on July 27, 2024, in Ernakulam. Born on December 13, 1947, to Abraham and Aleyamma, Mathew was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.

Professional Journey:

Mathew embarked on his pre-university educational journey at M.A. College Kothamangalam, followed by electrical engineering at Regional Engineering College (REC) Calicut (now National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut), where he honed his skills. His career began at Jyoti Ltd in Baroda (now Vadodara), Gujarat, where he served as an engineer. Later, he joined Keltron Controls Aroor, Kochi, assuming the role of quality control manager. His research and development contributions were instrumental in many revolutionary products at Keltron. In 1993, Mathew relocated to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, dedicating his expertise to the Saudi Electricity Company’s quality control department in Dammam and Riyadh until his retirement in 2019.

Literary Pursuits:

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mathew was an avid reader with a profound love for Malayalam literature. His insightful articles and captivating short stories graced the pages of various magazines, enriching the lives of many.

Friends and Vision:

Mathew cherished moments spent with friends and peers. He played an important role in the RECCAA club, demonstrating his forward-thinking mindset. A liberal thinker, Mathew’s vision extended beyond his generation, always embracing progress.

Legacy and Loved Ones:

Preceded in death by his parents, Mathew leaves behind his devoted wife, Jolly, a retired teacher. His children, daughter Rupa (residing in Kuala Lumpur with her husband, Paul), and son Mithun (based in Dubai with his wife, Veena), carry forward his legacy. Mathew was a doting grandfather to Philip, Mathew, Ethan, and Jadon, infusing their lives with boundless joy. He is survived by his siblings, John, Valsa, Mary, and Soosy.

A Life Remembered:

Mathew’s unwavering faith, dedication to family, and zest for life will forever echo in our hearts. May his soul find eternal peace.
