Engineering is a highly specialized profession, and the Engineering education equips one to blend the knowledge of science, the rigor of mathematics and logical reasoning to come up with cost effective solutions to practical problems. Budding engineers are nurtured through a systematic training process, under the tutelage of experienced and committed faculty members. Many of them remained dedicated to the teaching profession, while pursuing knowledge through research and consultancy. They need a recognition.
NITCAA Cochin Chapter instituted an award for best Engineering teacher from Kerala, in honor of Prof. K M Bahauddin, former principal of National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NITC). Prof Bahauddin immense contribution as institution builder and as an educationist in the early days of NITC is unparallel. Its only fitting the award is named after him.
Award is given once in two years. The award consists of a cash prize of Rs. 100,000, a citation and a memento.
Eligibility Criteria
- Candidate to be an Engineering Faculty with a minimum qualification of B Tech / B. E. / B Sc. with a post graduate degree in Engineering.
- Should be a current faculty member in any of the AICTE approved engineering colleges / institutions (Govt and Govt aided engg / Govt. self-financing / private self- financing colleges in KERALA) running B.Tech and/or M.Tech programmes in Engineering
- Should have a minimum of 15 years of professional experience, 10 years in teaching of which five years in AICTE approved engineering colleges of Kerala state.
- Below 65 years of age.
Selection Criteria
Criteria to be followed for evaluating candidates for the Bahauddin Award are based on a combination of factors, listed below.
- Good teacher.
- Good researcher.
- Good research guide
- Institution builder, who recognises the need for building up new institutions (Departments, Schools, institutes, centres for Teaching & Research and accomplishes these by his/her efforts
- Great team leader/organiser.
- A national leader in higher education, as recognised by UGC, AICTE or other All India organisations/ Academies/Associations by including his/her name in the expert and special committees.
- An educationist.
- A planner, planning for developing higher education in the country.
- A visionary, in the sense that he visualises or dreams things that should happen for the benefit of the society
- A role model for his category.
A jury consisting of reputed educationist and engineering practitioners will do the evaluation and decide the winner.
Nomination can be made by an Engineering graduate with commendable standing. Self nomination is not accepted. Application is normally invited on the month of October and award presented in Jan 1st .
This scholarship is funded by generous contribution of NITC alumni members. Also, joint sponsorship (batch wise or location wise) is also possible.
